The whole farm on a map and a complete history of field work in one tool

Coblit extended the Ploner system with farm plots on an OpenStreetMap map, field work records and a calendar — the whole farm in a single tool.

About the project

Ploner

We extended the system with AgriTech features: plot management on a map, a field work log with year-on-year history, and a calendar of important deadlines.

“Extending the system with farm-plot management and mapping features has significantly increased the product’s value for our users. Thanks to the implementation, farmers can manage a larger part of their business in one place and have better control over their farm. Coblit understood the specifics of the project and the needs of end users very well. The cooperation ran smoothly and professionally at every stage of the project. We recommend them.”

The outcome at a glance

  • A map view of the farm
  • Activity history for every plot
  • Support for work planning
  • Greater product value for users

Project journey

From challenge to success

Problem

The Ploner system mainly handled livestock farming and state registers, but not plots and crops — farmers had to use several tools and had no complete picture of their farm.

  • No support for plots and crops
  • Activities not linked to location
  • Several tools instead of one
  • No complete picture of the farm

Cost of the problem

Every day without a solution meant more manual work, slower service and missed opportunities.

  • Scattered data
  • Difficult work planning
  • No history of activities on plots

Solution

We extended the system with AgriTech features: plot management on a map, a field work log with year-on-year history, and a calendar of important deadlines.

  • Plot management module
  • OpenStreetMap integration
  • Plots visualised on a map (GIS)
  • Field work log
  • Calendar of deadlines

Business results

The system has become a complete farm management tool.

  • A map view of the farm
  • Activity history for every plot
  • Support for work planning
  • Greater product value for users

Who it’s for

Who this kind of solution helps most

We see similar challenges in many companies. If you recognise yourself in this list, this project shows what we can do for you too.

  • AgriTech companies
  • Agricultural advisory services and cooperatives
  • Forestry companies and land managers
  • Municipalities managing property and infrastructure
  • Surveying and construction companies
  • Products that need data on a map (GIS)

Why it works

5 reasons why this solution works

I want a similar solution
  1. The farm on a map

Plots shown on a map (GIS) give the farmer a complete picture of the farm in a single view.

  2. The history of every plot

The year-on-year work log shows what happened in the field and when, which makes planning future work easier.

  3. Deadlines in one calendar

Important deadlines are gathered in the system, so the farmer doesn't have to track them in another tool.

  4. One tool instead of several

Plots and crops have joined livestock and registers in the same system farmers already know.

  5. Ready for more features

Data linked to plot locations via OpenStreetMap is the basis for further AgriTech development.

How we ran the project

From analysis to ongoing development — one partner at every stage

This is how we worked together on the Ploner project: from understanding the processes, through wireframes and architecture, to rollout and further development.

  1. Analysis of farmers' needs

We analysed how farmers manage plots and field work, and what was missing from a system that had so far mainly handled livestock farming.

    What you gain

The extension meets the real needs of the product's users.

  2. Wireframes of the plot module and map

In Figma, we designed the farm map view, the plot card, the work log and the calendar.

    What you gain

A new module consistent with the rest of the product and easy for farmers to use.

  3. Architecture and map integration

We planned how to link data to plot locations and integrated the system with OpenStreetMap (plot layer, GIS).

    What you gain

Farm data in the context of a map — ready for further AgriTech features.

  4. Building and rolling out the module

We delivered plot management, year-on-year work records and a calendar of important deadlines.

    What you gain

The farmer manages the whole farm in a single tool.
